GPIB instruments/equipment

Ensure that each instrument has a unique GPIB address.

Notes: GPIB address ‘0’ must not be used (reserved for the adapter). The GPIB addresses that have been set on the instruments must be entered in EasyEdit > System SetUp > Calibration Instruments. It is recommended that the EasyCal default GPIB addresses are used for Time Electronics specified equipment since these addresses are used in the Time Electronics’ standard procedures issued with EasyCal.

Installing a GPIB interface card/adaptor

If a GPIB interface has been included in the shipment, use the separate installation manual provided. Carefully follow the instructions given in the card’s installation guide and check that it is functioning correctly prior to installing EasyCal. This can be done using the utility program provided by the GPIB interface’s manufacturer.

RS-232/USB controlled instruments

For RS-232 users may wish to consider using a multi-serial port adapter card. The full details of the instrument’s RS-232 interface parameters are entered into various sections of EasyCal. The default settings are COM1, 9600 bps, 8 data bits, No parity, 1 stop bit.
Problems with RS-232/USB operation should be investigated using the utility software usually supplied by the instrument manufacturer or by sending it commands directly from a terminal emulator such as Windows HyperTerminal.

Standard Procedure Library

A set of pre-written procedures are supplied with EasyCal. To use these they must be imported from the Standard Procedure Library. After importing the procedure can be tailored to the user’s requirements. It is also possible to use a Standard Procedure as a Template to create other procedures for similar instrument. See Chapter 4 Procedures for more information.

Re-installing EasyCal

Backup your complete EC6 directory before attempting a re-install of EasyCal.
When a re-install of EasyCal is done, the originals of any files that are replaced will be saved in a folder called EC6\BACKUP. However, this does not apply to the data files (in EC6\data) – these are never replaced by a re-install and must be deleted or moved by the user to allow new ones to be created. To un-install from the Windows Control panel select ‘Add/Remove Programs’, click on ‘EasyCal’ and allow Windows to remove the application. Do not allow any shared components to be removed if asked.

Backup

Backups should be performed on a regular basis. Copy the entire EC6 directory to your backup device. This will ensure that all data and reports are saved. See Section 2.2 Folder Structure for the location of the EC6 directory.
