If the barcode equivalent of the text entered into the Instrument EasyCal ID field is too long it will not fit into the space allocated in the standard label template. If this is the case, the barcode reader will be not able to scan the code.
EasyCal ID & Barcodes
It is important to keep the EasyCal ID short. A maximum of 2 letters and 4 digits is recommended. Letters, A, B ,C for example take up more barcode space than numbers.
Of course, it is possible to make the label template bigger using Crystal Reports. But this is not always practical.
It is not recommended to use the PLANT ID (ASSET ID or TAG) as the EasyCal ID, as these are often lengthy and contain many characters.
Before deploying EasyCal, the utilisation of the EasyCal ID should be considered. Preferably the PLANT ID (ASSET ID or TAG) should be set up as a USER FIELD, keeping the EasyCal ID as a separate entity and a unique identifier for the instrument record.
If the bar code will still not read with a short EasyCal ID, such as 1234, there might be a problem with the reader.
