It is possible to measure thermocouples, directly, using the 70/5051 DMM mode.

Cold junction compensation mode is selected in the ‘test set-up screen’ in EasyEdit.
OFF: No cold junction is applied. For example an external ‘ice point’ is used.
AUTO: Cold junction temperature is measured at the 5051 DMM terminals, and then applied to any readings automatically.
MANUAL: The cold junction value is entered manually, for example, the CJC displayed on the 7085 temperature distribution panel. The value is entered using an ‘on screen’ key pad during the calibration run.
Click the CJC information box during, the calibration run, and the key pad will appear.
All subsequent tests will use this value unless a new value is entered or the CJC option has been set of AUTO or OFF in the procedure.
Note: The option to measure thermocouples using the dc voltage function and ‘conversion tables’ is still available.
